Coombs-Wilk House welcomes her guests to picturesque downtown Stonington. Resting at the gentle foothill to "Stonington Mountain" the cottage comes in to view at the entrance to town as one approaches the gradual cascading of homes down the hillside to the calm waters of Stonington Harbor.

This vintage 1920s Cottage provides close access to the many attractions of the Stonington/Deer Isle area, and is only steps away to capturing the view of Penobscot Bay and its beautiful spruce-clad islands and sparkling blue waters. Nestled within a lush setting of spruce, maples, day lilies, ferns and a seasonal brook, Coombs-Wilk House invites nature inside, with windows bringing a bright and cheerful ambiance to the home. Step back in time as the charm of yesteryear is retained.

Original wooden kitchen cabinets hint at times past with lobster steaming on the stove and biscuits in the oven. A separate dining room brings the family together for meals, game playing, or puzzles. Relax on the glassed-in front porch, where you can catch a nap on a comfy cot as the afternoon sun trickles in, or utilize it as an extra sitting/reading area with its two wicker chairs and ample reading materials and games. A welcoming vestibule with attractive staircase leads you to the upstairs where you’ll find three enchanting bedrooms and a bathroom with its period claw-foot tub (equipped with shower head above). Washer and dryer, too!

A private back yard awaits, a perfect setting for an outdoor barbeque on the charcoal grill or a picnic on the grass and granite ledges. Linger over a sunny breakfast or lunch under the umbrella at the table with seating for four, or ease into a reclining chair with a good book. Rest in the hammock shaded by two large maple trees, while appreciating a variety of chirping birds and squirrels snacking on seeds and berries.

Walk to the attractions of downtown Stonington to enjoy the harbor activities, shopping, restaurants, theater, library, museums and more. Enjoy a leisurely walk to nearby Ames Pond where beaver and waterfowl traverse through a sea of blooming lilies, a favorite spot where painters and photographers endeavor to capture this idyllic setting.

Pick up the short trail across from the cottage that takes you to the top of “Stonington Mountain” (as the locals like to call it). This small hill provides a higher vantage point to take in breathtaking views of Penobscot Bay, including Isle au Haut and the hills of Acadia in the far distance. Kids will enjoy the frog pond at the top, but keep them close by as large crevasses and cliffs remain from the mining effects of the quarrying heydays.
